While other viewers applaud the Kapamilya network fantasy TV series “Bagani,” Kapuso network head writer and creative consultant Suzette Doctolero has an opposite opinion about it.
In an exclusive interview with the Philippine Entertainment Portal (PEP), she set the record straight about her opinion on the depiction of the Babaylans in the aforementioned TV show.
Read what she had to say below:
“To be fair, maganda ang direction. They have capable and talented actors. Dimples (Romana) is a good actress”
“I know I’m not supposed to critique yung trabaho ng kapwa writer, so forgive me. Pero as a Filipino, I really find it revolting and inappropriate the way this idiotic writer depicts the Babaylans.”
As she let out her unapologetic rants, Suzette Doctolero emphasize the effect of the show’s depiction of Babaylans to the younger audience .
“T*ng ina. Magbasa siya ng libro! Bata ang target audience. ‘Pag ignorante ang palabas, lalo at may kinalaman sa ating mga epiko, kultura at kasaysayan, ano ang epekto nito sa bata?”
“Iisipin nila… Mga baliw ang babaylan? Writers, lalo na yung magtatangka to write something about our history o culture, dapat armasado ng research. Malaking responsabilidad ito.
Despite not dropping any names, her statement might be referring to the credited writers of Bagani named Enrique Villasis, Akeem Del Rosario, and Mae Rose Balanay.
“Kung hindi siya seryoso, dapat mag-stick siya sa pagsusulat ng comedy lang o drama o porn. Mas bagay siya doon.”
In case you’re not aware, Suzette Doctolero was responsible for the well-received Kapuso TV series “Amaya” in 2011. She explained the Babaylan in her Facebook post.
