Sometimes, we get so busy with our everyday lives that we often forget to cherish and love the people who really matter. Our parents, for instance, have been taking care of us even before we were born. They have dressed us, fed us, nurtured us, and loved us without ever asking for anything in return.
However, as much as we don’t want to admit it, there is a lot of truth in the saying, “We are so busy growing up, we often forget they are also growing old.”
One netizen just reminded us why we should spend more of our time with our parents.
In a heartwarming post, Rizalyn Aguilos shared how her mother once asked her, “Anak, pagod ka? Labas tayo?”
The netizen said she was about to refuse because she only had PHP 200 left in her wallet, which she was saving as her transportation allowance until the next pay day. However, a part of her knew that her mom only wanted to spend some time with her and hear her stories.
Rizalyn answered, “Sige, nay. Ano gusto niyo?”
She said she found herself agreeing because she realized that she can splurge whenever she wants to eat out, but she can’t even spare some money to treat her mother to a cup of coffee.
As they were having coffee in a fast food chain, Rizalyn had a few more realizations.
The netizen said young people willingly go out with their friends to drink, but they can’t even give their parents a few minutes of their time. They can proudly post photos of their significant others on social media, but they rarely do the same thing for the people who raised them. They can buy expensive clothes for themselves, but they find it hard to spend for their loved ones.
At the end of her post, Rizalyn reminded everyone that we should thank our parents every day.
“Sila yung mga taong never tayong sasaktan at never tayong iiwan. ‘Drink your coffee while its hot. Same with our parents, give all the love habang di pa huli ang lahat.'”
