Recently, Pope Francis went to the St. Paul of the Cross Parish in Rome to answer several young parishioners’ inquiries. Among the youngsters who stood out was Emanuele, who was initially too timid to ask the pope his question.
This is why Pope Francis urged the little boy to come up on stage to whisper his question. Emanuele and the pope shared the next few seconds whispering to each other before the little boy, whose face was full of tears, went back to his seat in the audience.

The Pope spoke to the public and then shared what transpired between him and Emanuele’s conversation. After asking permission from the youngster, he shared the little boy’s question to the audience.
“Emanuele asked: ‘A little while ago my father passed away. He was a nonbeliever, but he had all four of his children baptized. He was a good man. Is dad in heaven?'”
The pope invited the public to reflect for a while and then followed up with a question.
“What is God’s heart like with a dad like that? What? What do you think?”
After a short pause, Pope Francis proceeded.
“A father’s heart. God has a dad’s heart.”
Once again, the Pope reiterated Emanuele dad’s traits, and then came up with an answer to the little boy’s question.
“Do you think God would be able to leave him far from himself? Do you think? Does God abandon his children when they are good? There, Emanuele, that is the answer.”
