People usually think that a domestic worker is happy to be leaving this country for a higher salary abroad. But this happiness is only a facade that keeps the sadness from spilling forth. These people are leaving behind their precious children or loved ones just to provide a better life for them. They endure loneliness and hard days to send as much money back to their families here in the Philippines.
Although her story has already been told a few years back, Teresita Alcanzare and her lovely kids never fail to inspire us. This domestic worker toiled for 18 years in Hong Kong so that she could fund the expensive education her seven children.

Teresita was a single parent and so, the only solution she saw was to go abroad. She remembered the heartbreaking moment wherein her family was at the airport bidding her goodbye. The hands of her children grabbing her suitcase and her clothes just to prevent her from leaving, but they needed to survive.
“Ang hirap talaga. Ayaw ko na nga maalala dahil hanggang ngayon natatandaan ko pa lahat, parang dinudurog ang puso ko. Nakikita mo ‘yong mga anak mong hinihila mga maleta mo at hinahatak damit mo para ‘di ka umalis. Tapos nakikita mo mga anak mo umiiyak. Sobrang sakit sa puso.“

Luckily, Teresita found a good boss that took her in for 18 years but now it was time for her to retire from working especially since all her children now have stable jobs. As she finally goes back to the Philippines, her youngest son named Hans Alcanzare was there to fetch her and to also give her a grand present – an Asian tour.
Hans wrote this in his viral Facebook post:
“Kaya Ma, Today, your Graduation has come and finally you’ll be free from stress and work. In behalf of my siblings I am congratulating you! Job well done my mom! It’s been a long hard years kaya It’s time for you to enjoy life naman. Kaya before you go home for good, let’s have an ASEAN TRIP! [flag emojis] All expense paid! We love you Mom! So First Stop, Singapore!“
