DOT Secretary summons Cesar Montano for P80M ‘Buhay Carinderia’ funding

Bernadette Romulo-Puyat was recently appointed Secretary of the Department of Tourism. She seems fervent on her oath. Thus she aims to eradicate corruption in the agency. Then, yesterday, during a news briefing, the new tourism chief announced to reporters that she will conduct an investigation into the Buhay Carinderia project. The project is the work of the Tourism Promotions Board (TPB).

Romulo-Puyat further said that she will summon TPB head Cesar Montano. She wants to clarify the accusations of corruption on the project.

The newly installed secretary of the agency said:

“I still don’t have the papers. I will be asking [and] will be arranging a meeting with Mr. Cesar Montano to ask about ask about ‘yung mga nabasa ko tungkol sa Buhay Carinderia. Kung totoo ba na walang bidding at ano ‘yung P80 million na… ang pagkabasa ko P80 million na-advance.”

According to a previous report from Philippine Star columnist Boo Chanco, Montano paid PHP 80 million for the project. However the project remains unfinished until now.

Buhay Carinderia is a TBP project that aims to promote native Filipino cuisine. Its appointed project ambassador and content creator is celebrity chef Erwan Heussaff. Most will certainly know him as the husband of Anne Curtis. 


Up until now, the TBP camp remains silent on the issue.



According to Neng Miranda they have no statement regarding the issue. Neng Miranda is the marketing communications head of TBP. They will wait for Montano to talk to Romulo-Puyat.
