Meet Maria de la Luz, a 70-year-old woman who claims to be pregnant

While we still get surprised when it comes to teenage pregnancy, what more would we feel if we find out a woman deemed too old for her age becomes pregnant? Believe it or not, a mother named Maria de la Luz from  Mazatlan City, Mexico, confidently claims to be pregnant.

At the age of 70, she will become the oldest living woman in the world to give birth. According to her, this incoming daughter of hers will be her eighth child. That is, if her claims are proven true.

In order to prove her claim, she has shown sonogram images of the child. Furthermore, she revealed that she is already six months pregnant.

She told the reporters:

“They told me it is a girl. Look, you can see her little face.”

Although it might sound sketchy, Maria de la Luz did not reveal whether she has undergone In vitro fertilization (IVF) — a process of fertilization by extracting eggs, retrieving a sperm sample, and then manually combining the egg and sperm in a laboratory dish, or other similar fertility treatment.

To her own narrative, she explained that she started to have a suspicion three months ago. She said:

“My legs hurt and I was vomiting and felt dizzy. Now they have done around 10 ultrasounds in a private clinic and in the (public) social security hospital. The doctors could not believe it.”

Even though her children were not excited about her pregnancy announcement, Maria de la Luz is still determined to continue. In fact, she has an appointment with a gynecologist this coming July 18.

As for now, the oldest known verified mother to give birth in the world is Maria del Carmen Bousada de Lara. At the age of 66, she successfully gave birth via cesarean section (CF) to male twins — Christian and Pau — in December 2006.
