Whether you’re rich or not, each of us are given our own struggles. No matter what walk of life you are from, life has its way of bringing us challenges toward our way to success. There really isn’t easy way to the top, as they say.
Some of us face financial struggles, others emotional. But there are also those whose struggles are brought about by unexpected things that have happened to their lives. With various health concerns sprouting every day, it’s no longer a rarity to find people who have been through a lot in terms of physicality.

Take for example the story of the now trending Fil-Aussie model, Elice Jayne Craig, who’s left eye has been blinded due to a surgery she had to undergo when she was 7 years old.
With a story as inspirational as hers, the World Wide Web quickly picked it up, and people can’t stop talking about it.
We first encountered Elice’s story through Take 5, a compilation of general clips from MSN.com. From hearing her story, we learned that her optic nerves were severely damaged through an operation that was supposed to take out a cyst on her left eye.
Since then, her naturally brown eyes slowly changed colors and became milky blue. It was with this change that she started to struggle from being teased and made fun of. Some people even went to the extent of calling her “worthless, ugly, and Cyclops.”
But she was raised by a Filipina mom who taught her to be the bigger person. Instead of fighting back, she started to hide her eye through her bangs and would just stay silent and cry everytime she’s teased. Her parents were very encouraging and even suggested that she tries modeling but this only resulted to a graver incident.

She shared that, “Before the show, the hair and makeup artist hid my left eye beneath my fringe. I was crushed. She was as embarrassed by my fault as I was.”
While it was a struggle to live through the judgment of other people, she powered through her situation and came out victorious. After finishing school, she applied for Miss World and was selected to be one of the 12 candidates to proceed to the finals.
She mentions that her story is indeed one that people should look at as inspiration. According to her, she couldn’t believe that after years of being told she was worthless and ugly, she’s gotten to the state finals of a beauty pageant.
