A young Australian woman was having the time of her life on a Saturday afternoon at Mackenzie Falls. Anneka Bading was with her friends enjoying the cool, crisp waters of the falls when they heard awful screams. The GoPro she was using to document their good times captured something that nobody wants to document – the final moments of a fellow Taiwanese tourist.

Anneka was using her GoPro when they heard people panicking and screaming.
“We thought some sort of animal was in the water. We couldn’t understand what was going on and they kept screaming and pointing. One girl grabbed my GoPro stick and tried to use it to save him. I then clicked someone was drowning.”
The 24-year-old Australian woman checked the footage taken by her camera and was shocked to see that it showed the Taiwanese victim slipping from the rocks. His own set of friends were horrified at what happened and kept asking for help when they saw that he was drowning.
They did try to save him. Anneka called the emergency hotline but the lack of reception prevented her call from pushing through. Both Anneka and her friends were shaken and couldn’t stop crying on their way home.

“It could’ve been us. You just don’t know how powerful it is. We all cried on the way back saying how lucky we were to be alive.”
She is hoping that necessary precautions could be taken like strengthening the cell reception in Mackenzie Falls or add some more warning signs to prevent this from happening again.
