A Filipino designer couldn’t believe he won the annual Toilet Paper Wedding Dress Contest in New York last Wednesday.
After several attempts, Ronaldo Cruz from Chesapeake, Virginia was able to place number one among the other nine hopefuls. The judges based the results on “originality, beauty, creativity, and workmanship”, all of which shows in his creation of a long, intricate halter wedding gown.
Aside from the recognition, Cruz went home with a whopping $10,000.

After the fashion show that was held at Kleinfeld Bridal in the Big Apple, Cruz said that he’s still in a state of disbelief. Clearly, this one is major for him.
“When they called my name I can’t really stand because I’m shaking because I’ve been waiting on this for like – five times already, this is my fourth time being on the top ten. So I’m really amazed and thankful, grateful.”

Prior to his win, the 51-year-old was just laid off from his longtime job at a grocery store chain in Virginia. Cruz, who migrated in 2003 and is now a citizen of America, said that he plans to use the money to fly back to his home country.
“I would go to the Philippines and treat my nephews and nieces.”
