We think that no one in this country is ignorant about the existence of Mike Enriquez. Every morning, we hear him in the radio program “Super Radyo DZBB,” along with radio announcers Ali Sotto and Arnold Clavio. While in the evening, we see him among the television news anchors of the newscast show “24 Oras.” However, audiences noticed that Mike Enriquez has been absent from all his shows these past few weeks. Thus, causing an alarm and concern to his avid viewers and listeners.
In an exclusive interview with “24 Oras” reporter Ivan Mayrina last August 22, Mike Enriquez shed light on the reasons behind his sudden absence. Much to everyone’s surprise, the veteran anchor revealed that he is presently getting treatment for his kidney illness. Likewise, he is currently preparing for his upcoming heart bypass surgery scheduled this mid-September.
“Namana ko ‘to sa tatay ko [kidney illness], kaya kailangan ang regular na paggamot. Yung sa puso naman ay kailangan ng heart bypass, o kung tawagin ng mga doktor. ‘Yung isasagawang operasyon, bypass operation, napaka-common eh. Pangkaraniwan na lang ngayon ‘yon.”
According to Mike Enriquez, his doctors told him that he will be able to return to his normal duties after two to four weeks after his surgery. In the meantime, he was advised to take some rest and avoid stress to keep him away from any medical emergency before his bypass operation.
Despite his current health condition, he assured everyone that he is still performing his functions as president of RGMA Network Inc. and as the consultant for Radio of GMA Network Inc.
