Kiefer Ravena is one of the brightest young athletes the Philippines have. It could be remembered that he was recently involved in a serious issue against him. Loved ones and supporters of the basketball player felt sad as the shocking news was reported. FIBA announced that Ravena is suspended from playing for them and for PBA as well.
Ravena was prohibited from the games when he tested positive for three substances banned by the World-Anti Doping Agency (WADA). The test was conducted in February 2018. Following the Gilas Pilipinas’ game against Japan at the Mall of Asia Arena.
The rookie sensation defended himself stating that it was, in fact, the pre-workout drink called “DUST” who got him into the mess. Ravena took it ahead of their game against Japan. He was recommended to buy it, despite it not being his usual choice of pre-workout drink. Ravena wasn’t aware that it contained the banned substances.
Now, Ravena is ineligible to play for 18 months. “I regret taking this pre-workout drink without analyzing or taking extra time to research its ingredients,” said Ravena in an interview. FIBA acknowledged that Ravena committed an “honest mistake” but have to follow the rules and regulations.
Despite the suspension, Ravena has been defended by the people who believe he was truthful. The Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas also defended him asking if the top PBA rookie can still play for the NLEX Road Warriors despite what happened. Keifer will instead serve as ambassador to spread awareness about substances prohibited by WADA.
It was during their Visayas leg of the 2018 PBA All-Star Week in Iloilo City when Ravena got the news.
