Earnest father worked as garbage collector for years to send children to school

Father’s Day draws near – a special holiday for the hard-working man in your lives. While some of us whine about getting up in the morning and going to school, there are parents out there who are earnestly working amidst the harsh realities of life to be able to afford education for their children. This was how 54-year-old Cristito Quimado struggled. He worked as a garbage collector for years so that he could send his kids to school.

Cristito shared with GMA:

“Hanggat malakas ako, pipilitin kong makapagtapos silang lahat. Yung pag-aaral nila hindi ko pinababayaan kasi yun lang yung ano ko sa kanila…makatapos sila.”

Fortunately, his hard work paid off. After years of diligently waking up before sunrise on a daily basis to tend to his duties, one of his kids finally finished college. Cristito’s daughter, Jenny Rose, marched in April this year to receive her hard-earned Nutrition and Food Technology degree.

Meanwhile, Jenny Rose said that she never felt embarrassed by her father’s garbage collector job. Instead, she is proud of it.

“Minsan, pumapasok akong walang baon…pero nagpapasalamat ako sa Diyos na siya ang tatay ko kasi marangal ang trabaho niya. Wala siyang ginagawang iligal.”
